On March 13, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, took part in the opening of the Astara Olympic Sports Complex. The Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the complex. The President of Azerbaijan familiarized himself with the conditions created in the complex. It was noted that the construction work on the 5-hectare territory of the complex was carried out at a high level by Intex LLC, a company within the Mega Holding Group.
Photo stands dedicated to the life and activities of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as to President Ilham Aliyev’s attention and care for the development of sports, have been created here. A broad program has been prepared regarding the work to be carried out in the district in connection with the declaration of 2012 as the “Year of Sports.” The newly built Olympic Sports Complex is the greatest gift to mark the “Year of Sports.” The Head of State also viewed the conditions created in the four cottages built on the territory of the Olympic Sports Complex. It was mentioned that the two-storey cottages can accommodate 40 people at the same time. The President of Azerbaijan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the complex. Greeting the participants, President Ilham Aliyev said:
“Dear friends, dear residents of Astara! Today is a very remarkable day in the life of the Astara district. A beautiful Olympic Sports Center has been opened in Astara. I sincerely congratulate all of you on this occasion. All the conditions for engaging in sports have been created in this Olympic Sports Center. I once gave instructions regarding the construction of the Olympic Center. Later, during my visit to Astara, I became acquainted with the progress of the construction. I was also in Astara last year. And today, we are participating together in the opening of this beautiful and magnificent Olympic Center. I am sure that the athletes of Astara and the residents of Astara will use these opportunities effectively. Because everything is available here: beautiful sports halls, outdoor fields, a swimming pool, gyms — in short, a wonderful, modern Olympic Center has now been created in Astara as well.”
