On April 15, during his visit to Astara, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev reviewed the construction of the Olympic Sports Complex.
It was reported to the Head of State that construction of the complex began in accordance with the Presidential Decree dated September 14, 2005, “On additional measures to accelerate the socio-economic development of the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the city of Lankaran and the districts of Astara, Lerik, Masalli, and Yardimli.”
Construction on a territory of up to five hectares began in the summer of 2007. According to the master plan, the complex will be built in a modern architectural style in the shape of an eight-pointed star and will include a two-storey main building with a universal sports hall. The sports hall will feature a grandstand for 1,000 spectators, gyms and training rooms, a foyer, cloakrooms, an information desk, a cafeteria, administrative offices, medical, coaching, and doctor’s rooms, etc.
It was noted that the two-storey swimming pool building will include a 200-seat grandstand, a pool measuring 51 meters in length and 31 meters in width, as well as rooms for coaches, doctors, equipment storage, a cafeteria, and other technical facilities. According to the master plan, four two-storey cottages, football, basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, a running track, and an above-ground car park will also be constructed.
The project also includes installation of independent gas, water, sewage, electricity, and communication lines, fencing of the allocated area, landscaping and creation of recreational zones, equipping the buildings with modern equipment, installation of ventilation systems and other facilities. The complex is planned to be commissioned by the end of this year.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the work done and gave his recommendations and instructions.
